Lance Fensterman, CEO of Fanatics Events and the former president of ReedPop — where he produced pop culture events like New York Comic-Con, Complex-Con, and Star Wars Celebration — said he sees several parallels between pop culture fans and sports fans. However, he noted, while events like New York Comic-Con have evolved to embrace multiple difference fanbases and communities, the sports-focused event space is "ready to be disrupted a bit." Tom Brady, Derek Jeter, Eli and Peyton Manning, Kevin Durant, Sabrina Ionescu and Hulk Hogan are just some of the big sports names scheduled to appear, Fensterman said. "Those are the moments that we get excited about, and we just don't see it being done anywhere else in the world of live sports events," Fensterman said. The festival was the highest-grossing and most-attended fan event in WWE history, according to Fanatics.

Fanatics will launch a new live events business that will look to recreate the Comic-Con experience for sports collectibles, the company said Thursday. The new venture, called Fanatics Events, will be a partnership with events and talent management giant IMG, which is part of Endeavor . Fanatics Events plans to organize global events through partnerships and acquisitions. Fanatics said Fanatics Events aims to start holding events next year. "Fanatics Events will be super-charged by the full power of Endeavor's flywheel, global network, and events expertise to deliver once-in-a-lifetime moments that fans will remember forever," said Paul Caine, president of On Location and IMG Events.

(NEW YORK — New York Comic Con isn't quite what it was before the pandemic. But it's still a way off from the approximately 250,000 fans who attended the New York event in 2019. ReedPop, the company that owns New York Comic Con, is fine with being conservative two years after the coronavirus forced organizers to make the event entirely virtual. The virus is still around, so Covid masks will still be required at all times indoors this year, although fans won't need to present proof of vaccination.
